Evaluations
Speech-Language evaluations play a crucial role in identifying communication strengths and areas for improvement. The therapist may administer tests and gather information from a variety of sources, including but not limited to, standardized assessments, observations, qualitative assessment measures, and parent/professional interviews. Though the evaluation process is geared towards the concerns expressed during the intake process, additional areas may be addressed as deemed necessary.
Following the evaluation, the speech-language therapist will analyze the data and write a comprehensive report with recommendations and a personalized treatment plan with goals that are specific and individualized.
Our Approach to Therapy
Let’s Express specializes in a range of speech-language therapy services in-person and via teletherapy to support communication and language development during critical developmental stages. These services address areas i.e. early intervention, speech sound production, gestalt language processing, language comprehension and expression, social communication, and fluency.
We collaborate closely with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the carryover of skills into everyday environments. By providing individualized support and empowering children and teens to communicate effectively, speech-language therapy services contribute to their overall well-being and success in social, academic, and personal endeavors.
Our Specialties
Early Intervention
Our early intervention language therapy services address language and overall communication development in young children who may be experiencing delays or disorders. We assess and intervene in areas i.e. speech articulation, language comprehension and expression, and social communication. Early intervention is critical as it may significantly impact a child’s ability to communicate and participate effectively in everyday activities. This can cause a reduced quality of life if not improved. We work closely with children and their families to provide support that is individualized and tailored to their needs.
Gestalt Language Processing
Let’s Express’ speech therapy services for gestalt language processors (GLPs) focuses on addressing the top-down communication style of these individuals. GLPs see things in a holistic, “big picture” fashion. Early stages of communication are marked by delayed echolalia and intonation; communication is not literal and “scripts” typically hold deep emotional meaning. GLPs require support to free their gestalts and work through the stages of the Natural Language Acquisition Framework to produce language that is spontaneous and understood in everyday interactions. This allows them to increase their ability to actively participate with more people across varied settings and activities.
Expressive Language Disorders
Our language therapy and speech therapy services for children and teens with expressive language disorders target difficulties that one has with conveying their thoughts, ideas, and feelings verbally and nonverbally. We work to enhance expressive language skills including vocabulary development, sentence structure, and narrative abilities. Techniques and strategies also focus on increasing nonverbal communication skills i.e. gestures, facial expressions, proxemics, and body language. The goal of therapy is to empower individuals to express themselves more effectively, interact socially, and participate fully in various communication contexts.
Receptive Language Disorders
At Let’s Express these language therapy services are targeted at difficulties that children and teens may have in understanding and processing language input. We use interventions to improve receptive language skills including auditory processing, comprehension of spoken and written language, and following directions. The goal of receptive language therapy is to enhance ones’ ability to comprehend and respond appropriately to language, thereby improving communication effectiveness and participation in daily activities.
